I love you in strange ways -
by memorising the softness of your hair,
for example, between my fingers,
the feel of your mouth against my mouth,
the feeling of your hands touching my
shoulders, making their way
down down down.
I memorise last Tuesday when you said
“hey, I took this picture of a cat because
you said you liked cats” and your smile
because it was such a small thing but
I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a week.

I memorise your laugh,
the way you laugh at my jokes,
even the stupid ones -
especially
the stupid ones
when you pick me up and say
“I’m never going to let you fall” and 
you don’t and
I forget everything my Mother ever told me about
never trusting people completely
and I remember the sound of your heartbeat
and the feeling I get 
when I see you across the street
and I feel myself dissipate 
until I am air and nothing is heavy 
anymore
and
everything is
light.
